The Yellow Firemans Hat

I rode on Daddies shoulders
With my firemans hat that I
Ride on daddies shoulders
Every which way to the sky

He's tall as tall as
them there trees
that smile up at the sky
I ride on daddies shoulders
which is again, now why

I need to feel his body
to cradle me, and so
I need to feel his strongish arms
to help me, and to know

what, by myself, sadly
I never dared to see
Into the forest far inside
Where the great marsh fairies be

Dad tells me the stories
Of the marsh fairies, who
Live deep in the dark woods
And do what they must do

Polish little moonbeams
And save the morning dew
Ask Jack Frost to freeze it
Into diadems of blue

I ride on Daddies shoulders
This forest, is mine
And right here is my haven
Where everything feels fine

There I hoot, with the Tawny
And I bark, with the deer
Responsive to the Summer
the best time of the year

I really cannot help that
My cheeks are very wet
For deep inside the forest
A Marsh Deer I just met

Who spoke to me real quietly
In her enchanting way
Then a shot rang out and sadly
beside me she did lay

a sort of horrid whimper
and an ever growing sore
here now was a being
flat out on the floor

2 hunters then I noticed
I saw them and they saw me
What they've done to the Marsh Deer
Is an actual tragedy

I noticed out of the window this afternoon a little boy riding on his daddies shoulders
wearing a yellow firemans hat.
