Le shan Dafo or Giant Buddha

Colossas carved in
the 8th Century
Out of sandstone rock
a Giant Buddha
gazes from his
blissful eyes
that lock
on would be modern gazers
his posture sat sublime
70 metres high, in fact
Till perhaps the end of time

Such detail
he has sprung to life
a robust state to note
Matreiya the great master
gets my architectural vote
vast effort, clearly proving
magnificence to see
The Giant Buddha
sits there
a statue of beauty

his head
a brain and root to clear
Nirvana
acid rain
continually curtails
cuts through the sandstone
damaging his outlook
pollution the reality
that no doubt causes pain

Sitting in his presence
Is such wonderment
and size
which might reduce
the human soul
right before his eyes
to nothingness
the great enlightened being
rock faced soul
Staring at me looking up
So under his control
