The Blackbird and the Cherries
Rex Tyler, 05.05.2010 · Printable version

Turdus Merula
The common Blackbird
A 14 inch wingspan
A man of his word
He sings in the morning
He sings when its late
Its sounds like "they're mine"
"all the cherries mate"

On the lower branches
we told him
they're ours
All of these beautiful
scented white flowers
And if they develop to cherries than he
Must learn how to share
Or in a pie he could be

His glossy black plumage
His eye rings so marked
Flute like his aria's
When he is parked
On his perch
on a branch
on the old cherry tree
Dear Mr Blackbird
Save some for me

This is inspired by a bird that welcomes us home
every time we come back from going somewhere
he is always there telling us the cherries are his and we should remember that.
