The Social Family of Lions

Why are Lions so social
in their outlook, how they stay
Together in a matriarchal group
for clearly they
Have intricate relationships
They are the Felines who
Take a pride in living
with this distinctive view.

A big male will protect them
Its his harem after all
He will protect his babies
and must fight and heed the call
If he wants to see his offspring
grow up and take the lead
He has to stay as fit and strong
To so protect his seed

Land for them is paramount
Instinctively they know
what territory to take on
Where the cubs can grow
Nearby they all need water
and game and cover too
They fight all comers always
For that's what male lions do.

And so great Prides are evident
and probably they will stay
A prime part of a Lions embrace
With Nature day on day
There's love and understanding
and responsibility
From all the members of the Pride
Through out eternity

This was inspired by BBC film about the MARSH lIONS IN Kenya on the borders of Tanzania in AFRICA.
