The May Flies hot pursuit is of a female A flighty bit of stuff Who happens by Dressed in what looks like a sort of negligee And surrounded by a crowd of boys who try To get off with the female of the species To have their way for all with them today The river is alive with new emergents Everyone a brand new Fly of May Virgin flight draw salmon and a mouthful For birds too who gulp air and may flies and Thats the end of love for many May Flies Who saw the light but failed to understand But suddenly the river was alive with them Every inch of surface and then they Will find a mate or die there on the surface As females rise and fly up and away to lay their eggs up stream and leave them floating to then be fertilised by others new This is how the May Flies guarantee ongoing life it seems to me a spectacle that was just great to view Inspired by Attenborough's Sunday History Channel 18/3/07 |
