I can't see a cat

I can't see a cat
There ain't no cats in here
Thats what the kid said
Then one did appear
From around a box
It crawled onto the scene
Flea's everywhere
And where had it been?

Here was a critter
Clearly alone
Abandoned, infact
Its miserable groan
Reflecting its stature
Its clear loss of face
Half starved
At a loss
With the real human race

Bought for the kids
But left on its own
A flap on its door
You could see every bone!
The odd mouse
and songbird
But basically, we
Saw deep sunken eyes
and its face
earnestly

"Here Kitty Kitty"
Serious doubt
Its stomach distended
Clearly the rout
was setting
Unsettling really to see
I can't see a cat
I can see Cruelty

Often pets take on
a role they annoint
A passion inside
Up to a point
Clearly this sad little
bundle of fur
Had faced its neglect
and forgotten to purr
